How to equip yourself for change, whatever life throws at you
Living through change is a theme I revisit regularly, and it usually means something different to us all.
But right now, it’s impossible to ignore the fact that we’re all living through a degree of change that we haven’t chosen; change on a global scale which is affecting so many of us and presenting us with new - often unwelcome - challenges.
When we turn on the news, we’re faced with a barrage of information that we might not feel mentally equipped to hear: horror stories about people living with the effects of Long Covid; harrowing images of the war in Ukraine; droughts and floods around the world caused by global warming; and the soaring cost of household energy bills.
I’m sure every generation before us has said it, but in some ways it feels like it’s a difficult time to be alive. That said, there’s also never been a better time to call on our inner resources and learn how to navigate our own path through these changing waters.
In my book, The Woman’s Guide to Change, I give everyday women access to the resources for change which have previously only been available to elite leaders, by teaching how to stop reacting to your present and instead choosing to be in control of your own future.
The book will bring together many of the tools, tips, ideas and stories which I have collected during my life - and 20+ years’ career as a successful coach - and packages them together in an accessible format, to inspire and encourage everyday women.
Drawing on helpful tools for change including mindfulness, self-compassion, courage, inner wisdom and even touching on the field of neuroscience, I’ll show you how your thoughts, words and actions make a difference. I’ll also teach you the core skills for managing change - on a personal and global level - including:
Finding purpose
Honouring your values
Practising self-care
Living with self kindness
Living through changes that we don’t choose -particularly those which are happening on a global scale - can feel overwhelming. We don’t always know what to do for the best, or how to stay on the right path when we’re surrounded by shifting sands. But one thing is for certain: in order to navigate change, we have to learn to prioritise ourselves, to find our own path in life which enables us to be true to our own beliefs and values.
With the right tools, every one of us has the ability to harness our hopes, face our fears and do whatever it takes to equip ourselves for whatever change life throws at us, even - perhaps especially - when it feels difficult.
I’m going to leave the same way I arrived - with a quote from Jack Canfield, best-selling author of Chicken Soup for the Soul, one of my mentors and a true source of inspiration, especially during tough times:
“Remember, you and you alone are responsible for maintaining your energy”.
Life can be challenging, change can be unwelcome, and it can be hard to stay positive in the face of it all. But with the right attitude, a little help and some practice - perhaps together we can light up the world…
