How to untangle your path
It can be pretty hard to untangle our path in life, to decide what we really want so that we can live authentically and with purpose. We often find ourselves stumbling along and simply coping, rather than making intentional choices about how we want to live.
I wrote recently about how to set intentions on a small scale, so that we can be fully present and make the most of every experience life has to offer. In this blog, I want to take a closer look at how to reflect on what you really want from life, so you can untangle your path and get out of your own way. It’s something that I take a much closer look at in my new book, Untangled.
Start by answering the following questions (if you have the Untangled Journal, great! If not, just grab a pen a paper, or the notes app on your phone will do):
I am a person who …..
At my core, I …..
I want you to know that …..
These might seem like strange prompts at first, but these questions get straight to the heart of who you are, which is the first step towards untangling what you want from life, or helping you live through a difficult period of change that you may not have chosen.
The next stage is to identify your purpose. To do this, you’ll need to dig a little bit deeper. Try asking yourself key questions like:
What makes me feel really alive?
How do I want to make a difference in the world?
What’s my story?
What do I stand for?
What energises me?
What am I really good at?
Untangling your path involves three important steps: clarify, connect and choose. The first step is to clarify who you really are, deep down, so that you can connect with what matters to you and choose your path in the future.
These questions are a great first step towards understanding yourself better and achieving more clarity about what you want from life, but if you’re interested in delving deeper, connecting with yourself and your life, and choosing what you want for your future, then check out my new book, Untangled: a practical and inspirational guide to change we choose and change we don’t.
Drawing on my extensive personal and professional experience and full of helpful tools, resources and journaling prompts, Untangled will help you to achieve clarity, purpose and a fresh perspective on what to do next. It also comes with a companion journal, the ideal place to start untangling those tricky, messy knots we all have in our lives.
